Samosir, Lake Toba Showcase Strong Candidate

 Lake Toba in North Sumatra in terms of tourism is not just about nautical tourism, but also as a park or geopark earth. Product Director of Culture and Tourism Ministry of Tourism (Kembudpar) Achyaruddin to Kompas.com on Thursday (17/03/2011), said it was seeking a location for the storefront of Lake Toba as geopark.
Showcase is to inform visitors about the location of Lake Toba as geopark. Lake Toba is the result of the formation of the earth due to a series of volcanic eruptions thousands of years ago so as to create a caldera. One strong candidate to be the storefront is Samosir regency.
"Lake Toba was 80 percent in Samosir regency. The peak of the mountain that erupted was the island of Samosir. In addition, the region Pusuk Buhit in Samosir regency had plenty of Batak cultural sites. This is where the real heritage Batak, the origin of the Batak people. Many wonderful sites, "said Head of Culture and Tourism Theodora Sihotang Samosir regency.

Meanwhile, Lake Toba Achyaruddin said into seven districts. To determine which location would be a storefront, research conducted by a team of experts.
"We can not affect the district of experts which will be a storefront location. This April's research team will prepare a study to tell geopark destinations, the potential of agricultural, social culture, economy, and opportunities to become pengerak tourism, "he said.
The team consists of expert geologists from the Geological Agency of Bandung and Kembudpar. Geopark is a location that is formed from a series of earth formation processes that occurred thousands of years. The location is managed for nature conservation as well as people living in the region and for tourism.

Achyaruddin said, Indonesia is a country formed from various processes forming the earth. Therefore, many areas holds the potential to become geopark. Until now, geologists Indonesia continues to map the areas where it can be called as a geopark.
"But every geopark can certainly be used as tourist destinations. Management are different for each destination, "he said.
In addition to Lake Toba, the other appointed geopark Kembudpar is Wayag in Raja Ampat. In 2010, Kembudpar Lake Batur and Pacitan propose to Unesco as a geopark. Lake Toba and Wayag's turn to be proposed in 2011.
